Some individuals make their job exits with significant attention, while others opt for quietly updating their LinkedIn profiles – and this is precisely what an experienced writer from Red Dead Redemption 2 has chosen to do.
Michael Unsworth, who served as the Vice President of Writing, bid farewell to Rockstar Games after dedicating 16 years to the company. Although Unsworth’s name may not be immediately recognizable, their creative contributions have left an indelible mark on iconic franchises such as Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto. Even if you are not an ardent follower of these game series, Unsworth’s talent also graced titles like Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire (a game that holds a special place in my heart).
Unsworth’s updated LinkedIn profile now contains the following statement: “Mike is a skilled writer with over 16 years of experience at Rockstar Games, where he played a key creative role in some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful video game franchises in history, notably Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.” It’s an interesting choice to use the third person, but to each their own.
Regarding the reasons behind Unsworth’s departure, they remain shrouded in mystery. Neither Unsworth nor Rockstar Games has chosen to comment on the matter. One might assume they consider a mere profile update sufficient – but do they not understand the insatiable curiosity of gamers? We crave all the details, particularly if they pertain to eagerly anticipated titles like GTA 6. Perhaps we’ll encounter Unsworth’s name again, even though they have ventured into new gaming realms.
Despite changes happening within Rockstar, our love for Red Dead Redemption 2 remains steadfast; who among us could ever abandon it? And now, we’ve stumbled upon an incredibly “awesome” feature that greatly simplifies gold acquisition, not to mention the oddly wholesome aspect of this money-making endeavor. If that isn’t reason enough to return to the game (assuming you ever left), there’s the promise of GTA 6 with its dynamic weather system, rendering lightning in an astonishingly realistic manner, and fans are bursting with excitement, despite the extended wait for its release.
Unsworth’s departure is indeed a somber note, but we remain confident that Rockstar Games will continue onward. Who knows, perhaps we’ll encounter Unsworth at another game development studio in the not-too-distant future.
